LEEDO’s Food Support Activity
LEEDO’s Food Support Program: Nourishing Hope, Building Futures
Overview
At LEEDO, nutrition is the first step toward rehabilitation and empowerment. Street-connected children, survivors of abuse, and vulnerable women often lack access to adequate food, which directly affects their health, growth, and ability to learn. LEEDO’s Food Support Program ensures that every child and participant in LEEDO’s initiatives has consistent access to nutritious meals, forming a strong foundation for education, life skills, and long-term development.
Adequate nutrition not only sustains life but also enables children to engage in learning, vocational training, and social reintegration, giving them a real chance to escape cycles of poverty and vulnerability.
Purpose and Objectives
The Food Support Program is designed to:
- Provide balanced daily meals to children in LEEDO’s Transitional ShelterSETU BANDHAN and long-term care facilities such as Peace Home.
- Support children attending Schools Under the Sky, Mobile Schools, and vocational training programs.
- Address food insecurity among street-connected children and at-risk families in Dhaka and other urban areas.
- Deliver emergency feeding during crises such as natural disasters, pandemics, or sudden displacement.
- Promote nutrition awareness and hygiene practices through community workshops.
Key Components
- Daily Meals
Children residing in LEEDO’s Peace Home and shelters receive three nutritious meals a day, planned to meet the dietary needs of growing children. Meals are prepared with care, ensuring hygiene, balanced nutrition, and variety. This support is essential for children recovering from trauma and vulnerability, allowing them to focus on education, play, and social development. - Food Support in Schools Under the Sky & Vocational Training
LEEDO’s Schools Under the Sky provide education to street-connected children who cannot attend formal schools. These children receive daily nutritious meals, enabling them to concentrate on learning and build their physical and cognitive health.
Similarly, participants in LEEDO’s vocational training programsincluding tailoring, handicrafts, carpentry, beautification, and computer literacybenefit from balanced meals during training sessions, ensuring they stay energized, focused, and motivated while acquiring valuable skills for their future independence.
- Street Outreach Feeding
Through Mobile Schools and outreach teams, LEEDO provides cooked meals or healthy snacks to street children at major urban hubs such as Kamalapur Railway Station, Gabtoli, Sadarghat, and Tejgaon. These feeding sessions reduce immediate hunger, while simultaneously building trust and connecting children to education, counseling, and shelter services. - Emergency Relief Food Distribution
During crises like floods, pandemics, or sudden displacement, LEEDO distributes food and hygiene kits to thousands of affected families. Priority is given to children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, helping reduce immediate vulnerability and preventing harmful coping strategies such as child labor or begging. - Community-Based Food Support
In partnership with donors and volunteers, LEEDO provides dry rations and food baskets to underprivileged families living in slums and disaster-prone areas. This support ensures household food security while also facilitating the safe reintegration of rescued children into family and community life.
